VINTAGE NOTES:
In 2011 California was in the early years of a significant drought, one that would make history (spanning 2011 – 2017). No rain through February meant the soil to warmed up quickly. Budbreak came on March 5th, 10 days earlier than normal. A mild spring led to a good fruit set. Summer and fall brought hot temperatures; summer was especially hot, with temperatures in the 90’s through July. Harvest started on September 11th and took 3 days. We picked at night when it was coolest, to protect our crew and our crop. We harvested a total of 16 tons.
TASTING NOTES:
On the nose fresh, ripe aromas of red cherry and cranberry, vanilla extract, nutmeg and sweet oak. On the palate we taste ripe red cherry and earth followed by secondary flavors of vanilla, cranberry, orange zest and peppery spices. The wine is light-medium body and finishes with smooth tannins and balanced acidity.
